The Finnish-Canadian Business Club reorganized it’s
activities after couple of years of silence in 1997. The main
mission of the Club is to promote trade, investment and
economic cooperation between Finland and Canada. The target is
to get more Finnish companies interested in the business
opportunities Canada offers.
The FCBC provides its members a forum for discussion, lectures and information serving the development of the economic ties between the two countries. Events organized by the FCBC offer its members also background information on Canadian business culture as well as opportunities for networking and sharing experience.
Membership of the FCBC is open to all individuals and
organizations interested in building business relations between
Finland and Canada. Current company members, in total 35
companies or organizations, cover from small enterprises to
large corporations in the fields of manufacturing, banking and
finance, consulting, logistics, import/export and distribution.
In addition, the Club has got ten individual members.
Membership fee for 2011: company members 150,- and individual
members 20,-.
The Finnish-Canadian Business Club is a registered association
in Finland but, like most of the trade associations in Finland,
is an independent body without official status. All the
activities are based on voluntary work of members and the
operation costs are covered by a membership fee. The FCBC
cooperates with Finnish foreign trade and other authorities as
well as industry associations and the Canadian Embassy in
preparation of various events like delegation visits and
business seminars.
Secretarial and administrative functions of the Club are taken care of by Finland Chamber of Commerce.
The normal way of working is to organize luncheon meetings, to which guest speakers are invited to introduce subjects related to Canada followed by free discussion on the subject. The guest speakers have been ambassadors or commercial counselors, representatives of various ministries and business people. During the meetings the members share their practical business experiences. The meetings have often been organized also in the premises of the member companies to hear their business experiences in the area.
